Four Dead In Two Days Of Road Carnage

Four people have died in a series of separate road collisions over the past two days.

In Fermoy, County Cork last night, a male pedestrian in his 50s was killed after a vehicle collided with him. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was conveyed to Cork University Hospital.

Gardai in Fermoy are investigating the circumstances of the collision, which occurred on the Fermoy to Glanworth Road at a place called Grange, three quarters of a mile outside Fermoy, at approximately 11.30pm.

Diversions are in place and the area will remain closed pending a Forensic Scene Examination.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Fermoy Garda Station on: 025 82100 or the Garda Confidential Line on: 1800 666 111.

Only hours earlier in County Roscommon, a man in his 20’s died as a result of his injuries after the car he was he traveling in left the road along the main Castlerea to Roscommon Road.

He was subsequently taken to Roscommon Hospital where he was pronounced dead, and Gardai are investigating.

Meanwhile, Gardai at Ballybay, County Monaghan are investigating a single vehicle road collision, which occurred on the main Cootehill to Ballybay road at approximately 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

A male believed to be in his 40’s was pronounced dead at the scene after the lorry in which he was the sole occupant left the road.

Another man who was also in his 40’s, was fatally injured when his motor cycle was involved in a head on collision with a car on the Clones Road, in Monaghan. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the Louth Hospital, where a post mortem examination will take place.

Forensic Collision Investigators were called to the scene.

Adding to the two days of carnage, a Donegal man was killed in a motorcycle crash while holidaying in Greece. Phillip McGettigan (37), a native of New Line Road, Letterkenny, was fatally injured yesterday morning.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Garda Investigating Cause Of Fatal Collision On N20
An investigation has been launched into the cause of a fatal road traffic collision this morning on the Cork - Limerick road. A man has been pronounced dead following the collision involving a car and truck at approximately 10am at Annabella on the outskirts of Mallow in Co Cork on the N20 route.

Two Dead In Separate Crashes
A man and woman have both died in separate road traffic collisions over the weekend. In the first of the two incidents, a male driver died in Corascashel, Dowra, Co Cavan approximately 2.5miles outside Dowra on the Dowra to Glangevlin Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and was the only occupant of the car.

Man Dies In Cork Collision
A man has lost his life in a collision between a car and a truck in east Cork. The crash happened on the Midleton to Whitegate road shortly after 7am this morning, Thursday 01 August. The fatality, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem.

Fatal Road Collisions Claim Three Lives
Gardaí at Enniscorthy are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred sometime after 3.30am this morning at Coolacarney, Ballindangan, Co. Wexford. The two male occupants of a car were taken to Wexford General Hospital after the car they were travelling in collided with the pillar of a wall.
