Grandfather Of Magician Dies After Attack In Home

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an attack on an 82-year-old man who has died from his injuries.

Paddy Barry, the grandfather of magician Keith Barry, was seriously injured after the break-in at his home in the Mount Sion area on 16 September.

Mr Barry died early this morning never having regained consciousness after the attack.

His grandson, the magician Keith Barry, criticised the Irish criminal justice system over the weekend on the Marian Finucane Show radio show.

During the interview, Mr Barry called on the Department of Justice to introduce tougher laws to punish those who target older people. He said other elderly people living in the usually quiet Mount Sion area of the city were petrified following the attack.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Paddy Barry today.

The 18-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge but a file has been sent to the DPP.
