Arrest Follows Offaly Publican's Death

The investigation into the death of a 60-year-old pub owner at the beginning of the month has led to an arrest taking place.

Gardaí investigating the death of Matthew Farrell in Daingean, Co Offaly have this afternoon detained a man in his late 20s in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Tullamore Garda station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.

Detectives have made their move after their intial investigations following the discovery of the body of a man in his 60s early on 1st of April 2009.

The shock find was made by a member of the man's family, at the public house owned by the dead man in Daingean.

The victim lived on the premises which were initially preserved for technical examination by the Technical Bureau while the office of the State Pathologist was also notified for an examination.

Teenager Found Dead In Killarney
The body of a 17-year-old man has been found on the Rock Road, Killarney, Co Kerry. Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery, that took place today at 1.45 am. The teenager was pronounced dead at scene, and is not thought to have been there long. Detectives are treating the death as violent and suspicious.

Woman's Body Found At House In Co Meath
Gardaí in Co Meath have discovered the body of a woman at a house in Longwood. According to gardaí they discovered the woman's body at around 17:00 on Monday at a house in Edgeworth Court. An injured man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was also found at the scene and is being treated at Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Elderly Man Dies In Galway House Fire
Gardaí in Co Galway have reported the death of a 73-year-old man in a house fire. Clifden fire service was called to the scene of a house fire at around 23:30 on Monday night. The man's body was discovered in the house, where he lived alone. The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination, due to be carried out this morning.

Man Dies In Stabbing Incident
A 30-year-old has died and a second man has been injured in a stabbing incident in Tullamore, Co Offaly, shortly after 7am this morning. It is believed there had been an argument in a house in the area and a Polish man was killed. The other man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Investigations Underway Following Sudden Death Of Man In Dublin
An investigation has been launched following the sudden death of a man in his 50s at his home in Tyrrelstown, Dublin. Gardaí arrived at the scene at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, Sunday 08 April. A technical examination of the scene took place. The body was then removed to the city morgue in Whitehall and a post-mortem was carried out.
