Man Remanded Over Dublin Heroin Seizure

A 35-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the seizure of €6.5 million of heroin in Dublin earlier this week.

Michael Byrne, 35, from Old Tower Crescent, Clondalkin, was arrested on Wednesday, after more than 30kgs of the drug were found in a van, which was searched in Palmerstown area on Tuesday night.

He appeared at Dublin District Court on Thursday night for possession of the drug and possession with intent to supply.

No application for bail was made and he was remanded in custody at Cloverhill Prison for one week.

A 35-year-old woman was also arrested during follow-up searches following the drugs seizure. However, she has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Two Held Following Drug Seizure

Gardaí Arrest 45 In Major Drugs Operation
A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and “crack” cocaine in the Dublin region. The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.

Two Arrested In Connection With Dublin Drug Supply
Two men have been arrested in Dublin as part of a gardaí investigation into the supply of drugs in the city. Gardaí said the men, from Eastern Europe, were arrested by the Ballymun Drugs Unit in an underground car park on Tuesday night. It is understood the drugs, worth an estimated €500,000, were seized during the operation.
