Assault Rifle Accused Remanded

A further remand was ordered yesterday in the case of a Dublin man charged with membership of an illegal organisation and of having a Kalashnikov assault rifle and ammunition.

The man, Denis Dwyer, 22, a plumber, of Drumcarra Avenue, Jobstown, Tallaght, appeared before the Special Criminal Court where he was remanded in custody after also being charged on Saturday with the unlawful possession of a Kalashnikov style assault rifle and 21 rounds of .223 inch ammunition at Camden St, Dublin, on Thursday, November 22 last.

The charge related to membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish National Liberation Army, otherwise the INLA on the same date.

The court remanded Dwyer in custody until Thursday December 6.

Man Charged Over Serious Assault
A man in his 20s is expected to appear in court, charged in connection with a serious assault that happened at Dorset Street, Dublin. On Sunday morning, at around 1.45am, Gardaí were called to the scene at an apartment at Kelly's Row. A man, aged in his 30s, was suffered serious injuries in the attack and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Pair Remanded In Custody Over Dissident Republican Activity
Two men have appeared before the Special Criminal Court charged with the possession of two handguns in Dublin. Patrick Kennedy, 65, and Gary Yeung, 31, were arrested on James Street in Dublin on Saturday as part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity. Mr Kennedy was also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation.

Man Remanded Over Dublin Heroin Seizure
A 35-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the seizure of €6.5 million of heroin in Dublin earlier this week. Michael Byrne, 35, from Old Tower Crescent, Clondalkin, was arrested on Wednesday, after more than 30kgs of the drug were found in a van, which was searched in Palmerstown area on Tuesday night.
