Pair Remanded In Custody Over Dissident Republican Activity

Two men have appeared before the Special Criminal Court charged with the possession of two handguns in Dublin.

Patrick Kennedy, 65, and Gary Yeung, 31, were arrested on James Street in Dublin on Saturday as part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity.

Mr Kennedy was also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation.

Mr Yeung was also charged with possession of ammunition.

The pair have been remanded in custody and are to appear in court on Friday.

Nine Prisoners Charged Over Mobile Phone Possession
Nine men have appeared before Clover Hill District Court charged with having a mobile phone in prison. The men are the first people to be charged with the offence. The ordinary penalty for possessing a mobile phone in prison is up to a year in jail or a maximum 5,000 euro fine.
