Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses After Critical Two-Car Collision in Ballyshannon
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle collision that occurred in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, on Saturday 25th July 2026.
Emergency services and Gardaí attended the scene at Erne Roundabout in Coolcholly at approximately 10:00pm.
A female passenger in one of the vehicles, aged in her 70s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where her condition is described as critical. Two other passengers from the same vehicle were transported by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and two passengers from the second vehicle were also conveyed by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and later released pending analysis of a sample by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to step forward. Road users who were in the area of the Erne Roundabout between 9:45pm and 10:00pm on 25th July 2026 and have camera or dash-cam footage are requested to share it with officers.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 985 8530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

An Garda Síochána Begins Bank Holiday Road Safety Blitz
An Garda Síochána will run a large-scale roads policing operation over the August bank holiday, from Thursday morning, 30 July 2026, until Tuesday morning, 4 August 2026. The campaign will focus on the four lifesaver offences: speeding, driving under the influence of an intoxicant, using a mobile phone while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt.
