Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses After Fatal Collision on N73 Near Mitchelstown
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal road traffic collision that took place on the N73 near Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, on Sunday 21st June 2026.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after receiving reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at approximately 1.40pm. The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the location. His body has since been transferred to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted. The coroner has been informed of the death. The female driver of the car, who is aged in her 30s, was taken to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel as a precautionary measure. No further injuries were reported from the scene at the time.
The road was temporarily closed to allow for a detailed technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, but it has since been reopened to traffic.
An appeal has been launched for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact investigators. Road users who were travelling on the N73 near Mitchelstown on Sunday 21st June 2026, between 1.00pm and 2.00pm, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings), are requested to make this material available to the police.
Anyone possessing relevant information is urged to contact Fermoy Garda Station on (025) 82100, call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or speak to an officer at any Garda Station. The investigation remains ongoing.
