Man Arrested Over Dún Laoghaire Murder

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman in Dublin.

Gardaí said that the woman, named Jane Braidwood, was attacked in the kitchen of her home at about 17:00 on Tuesday by a man "known to her".

It is understood that Ms Braidwood's daughter was in the house at the time of the attack and ran into the street for help.

A neighbour is said to have entered the house, where they were also attacked by the arrested man.

Gardaí were called to the scene on Clarinda Park East, Dún Laoghaire, at about 17:20. When they arrived they found the woman in the kitchen. She had been stabbed multiple times.

Ms Braidwood was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The neighbour also required hospital treatment.

Gardaí said they have a suspect in custody and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack.

A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.
