Weekend Road Collisions Claim Two

Gardaí in Shannon are investigating a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred around 5am on Saturday morning.

The 36-year-old female driver and sole occupant of a car was pronounced dead at scene when her car left the road and collided with a tree on the northbound carriageway of the N18 at Hurler's Cross, between exits 6 and 7.

The road was closed at the time to facilitate a forensic examination but has since re-opened.

The body of the deceased was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital.

In a separate incident Gardaí are continuing investigations into a collision that took place around 1am on Saturday in Spiddal, county Galway.

A male pedestrian in his 30's was struck by a car on the R336 at Salahoona. His death was pronounced at scene and the deceased was removed to University College Hospital Galway.

The road remains closed at present to facilitate a forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Fatal Road Collisions Claim Three Lives
Gardaí at Enniscorthy are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred sometime after 3.30am this morning at Coolacarney, Ballindangan, Co. Wexford. The two male occupants of a car were taken to Wexford General Hospital after the car they were travelling in collided with the pillar of a wall.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Baby Boy Killed In Westmeath Collision
A 22-month-old boy has died at Temple Street Children's Hospital today after a traffic collision in Moate, County Westmeath on Saturday. The child was struck by a car in the Coillin Buí estate in the town at about 1.45pm and taken to Mullingar General Hospital. He was later transferred to Temple Street.

Woman Seriously Injured In Three-Car Accident
A woman has been seriously injured following a three-car collision on the N4 Dublin/Sligo Road. The crash occurred on the Edgeworth Road at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday (7 January). The woman is currently being treated at Midland Regional Hospital. The main Dublin/Sligo Road has been closed and diversions are in place.
