Hospital Shooting Probe Leads To Arrests

Two men have been detained this morning as part of the ongoing investigation into a shooting on the grounds of St Jame's Hospital last week.

A Gardaí spokesman said the men were arrested in the Dublin 8 area at 7.30am, and are in their late 20s.

They are detained in Kilmainham and Kevin Street Garda stations under the Offences Against the State Act.

During the attack on the morning on August 4, two security men were injured after sustaining gunshot wounds. The incident happened at around 4.30am.

One man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. The other man also sustained a gunshot wound, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

A spokesman for the hospital said the shooting had not affected patient services and that everything continued operating as normal.

A motive for the attack is as yet unknown, however there are suspicions the attack could be related to gang activity in the area.
