Garda Dies From Injuries While On Duty

Garda Robert McCallion, the 29-year-Garda who was injured in an incident in Co Donegal last month has died in hospital.

Garda McCallion from Swinford in Co Mayo, died shortly after 4pm yesterday afternoon surrounded by his family at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

He was knocked down and seriously injured on duty while investigating suspicious activity in Letterkenny and reports of a stolen car in the Tara Court area on March 26. Two men have since been charged in connection with the incident.

Commissioner Fachtna Murphy speaking at the AGSI Conference in Athlone expressed his deep regret and sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Garda McCallion, and a book of condolence for Garda McCallion has been opened at Letterkenny Garda Station, where he was stationed.

Off-Duty Garda Injured In Stabbing Incident In Co Limerick
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information following a stabbing incident in Co Limerick on Sunday night. An off-duty garda officer was stabbed in the hand in an incident at Bruach na Sionna, Castleconnell, shortly after 9pm. He was taken to University Hospital Limerick with what was described as minor injuries.

Garda Road Death Case Reaches Court
The 18-year-old man charged with the manslaughter of a garda in Co Donegal in March after an incident involving a car has been bailed. Jamie McGrenaghan of Gortnacraw, Kerrykeel in Co Donegal was charged at Glenties District Court in Co Donegal with the unlawful killing of Garda Robert McCallion.

Investigation Launched After Pharmacy Worker Stabbed
An investigation has been launched in Drogheda after a Pharmacy employee was stabbed. Gardaí were called to Scarlet Street shortly before 08:30 on Tuesday morning to reports that an employee had been stabbed. The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.

Man Arrested Over Donegal Shooting
A man is being questioned by gardaí in relation to a shooting that took place in Donegal at the weekend. The incident happened at a property in Churchill on Saturday morning. A 42-year-old man suffered injuries in the shooting. He was taken to University College Hospital in Galway for treatment.

Man Arrested In Stabbing Incident
Gardaí investigating a fatal stabbing incident in Dublin have made an arrest. On Sunday (17 August), David Sheridan, 45, suffered serious injuries in the incident which occurred at North Strand in the city. He was transferred to the Mater Misericordise University Hospital but later died from his injuries.
