Garda 'Critical' After Being Run Over

A 29-year-old garda remains in critical condition today after he was was seriously injured in an incident at Letterkenny, Co.Donegal.

It happened at about 4.30am today when officers were responding to a report of a stolen car at Tara Court.

Head and arm injuries were sustained when he was struck by a vehicle just as he got out of a patrol car.

He was taken for treatment to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardái initially went to the scene following a report from the public about suspicious activity in the area.

They said this morning that a juvenile male was arrested at the scene following the incident and a second male in his late teens was also arrested in a follow-up operation near Milford.

They are both detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Letterkenny.

The incident is under investigation by Letterkenny Gardai and the scene is preserved pending a technical forensic examination.

Two cars are also preserved for technical examination.

One of two cars was earlier taken, without the consent of the owner, from a house in the area.

Donegal Shooting Investigated
Gardaí in Donegal have launched an investigation after a man was shot in St Johnston on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at the man's home in Carrickmore Street around 9:30pm. Three armed and masked men burst into the house and attacked the man with what is believed to have been an air rifle.

Man Dies In Donegal Road Crash
A man has died in a road crash in Donegal. The collision, between a car and a lorry, occurred at Tullytrap on the main Letterkenny to Lifford Road, on Thursday, 04 August. The driver of the car was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital, however he later died from his injuries. A passenger in the vehicle is currently being treated in hospital.
