Man Arrested In Connection To Thompson Disappearence

A man in his 30s has been arrested by gardaí in Portlaoise in connection with disappearance of 59-year-old builder Tommy Thompson.

Detectives involved in the case say that information given to them in December led to the discovery of human remains yesterday.

The body was found in a shallow grave near the Rock of Dunamaise on the Stradbally to Portlaoise road. The remains have now been removed to Dublin for a post mortem examination.

A forensic investigation of the grave and surrounding area is continuing.

Mr Thompson’s wife and family have been informed are travelling to Ireland.

Gardaí have again appealed to the public for information as to the whereabouts of the building contractor’s blue Renault van, Registration number 06-LS-2453.

Arrested Over Missing Builder
A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of English builder Tommy Thompson. Mr Thompson, 59, who is originally from Yorkshire, has not been seen since April 20. He had been working as a plasterer in Portlaoise, Co. Laois at the time of his disappearance.

Man Dies In Co Laois Road Crash
Gardaí in Co Laois have reported the death of a 47-year-old following a road crash on the M7 Dublin-Limerick road. The crash happened near Portlaoise shortly before 10pm on Thursday night. According to gardaí, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was reopened on Friday morning following a technical examination.

Missing 25-Year-Old Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A 25-year-old man who was missing from Harcourt Street in Dublin has been found safe and well, Gardaí have reported. Simon Quinn was reported missing after last being seen at around 2.30am on Monday, 30 July. However, Mr Quinn has now been found and Gardaí said they wish to thank the media and public for their assistance.

Gardaí Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Gardaí are appealing for information following the death of a 45-year-old man killed in a motorcycle crash in Co Laois on Sunday. It is understood that the man was riding a motorcycle that hit a crash barrier on the M7 at Knockaroo, Borris-in-Ossory, at about 06:40 on Sunday morning.
