Arrested Over Missing Builder

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of English builder Tommy Thompson.

Mr Thompson, 59, who is originally from Yorkshire, has not been seen since April 20. He had been working as a plasterer in Portlaoise, Co. Laois at the time of his disappearance.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem is due to be carried out on human remains discovered near Portlaoise on Wednesday.

The remains were discovered during a search of the area in Dysart, reportedly following specific information giving to gardaí last month.

It is understood that Mr Thompson's wife and family have been notified of the developments in the case and are travelling to Ireland.

Gardaí have also renewed their appeal for information regarding Mr Thompson's blue Renault Van, which has the registration number 06-LS-2453, and anyone with any information is asked to come forward.
