Dublin Airport Expands
Short haul passengers flying from Dublin got a major boost today as the Taoiseach and Minister for Transport officially opened the new Pier D at Dublin Airport.
The new €120m facility will cater for around 27,000 passengers every day and will be used mainly by short-haul aircraft on routes to Britain and continental Europe.
According to the Dublin Airport Authority, Pier D will make the experience of passengers on low-cost airlines much better.
Six of Pier D's 12 boarding gates open today and the remainder will open early next year.
Around 10m passengers can use the facility each year, or half the number of passengers that currently use the airport.
The development of Pier D is part of a €2bn investment by the Dublin Airport Authority over the next decade.

Almost 80kgs of the illegal drug Khat have been seized at Dublin Airport from two different travellers in the space of a week, Revenue, Tax and Customs has reported. On Monday 04 July approximately 42kg of Khat was found in the luggage of a 45-year-old Dutch national, who arrived in Dublin on a flight from Abu Dhabi.
