Increase In Passengers At Dublin Airport

The number of passengers travelling through Dublin Airport in January rose by 7% to more than 1.5 million.

The increase represents an extra 3,500 people flying from the airport every day.

Almost 70,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes – an increase of 15% - while the number of travellers on transatlantic routes rose to 106,000 – an increase of 32%.

The number of passengers travelling to and from continental Europe increased to nearly 750,000 – an increase of 9% - while more than 620,000 passengers travelled to and from the UK.

The number of passengers travelling to the Middle East, northern Africa and South Africa also rose to more than 24,000 – an increase of 20%.

A new smartphone app has been launched by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, offering travel advice and consular information on 200 countries, encompassing security, local laws, entry requirements, health and emergency contacts. Launched by Minister Charlie Flanagan, Travelwise is free and available for both iOS and Android devices.

Flight Ban Strands 170 Irish Citizens In Egypt
At least 170 Irish people are stranded in Egypt due to terrorism concerns, it has been announced. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Dublin said scores of passport holders had registered with its consular division in the country.

Three Arrested After High-Speed Car Chase
Three men were arrested on Wednesday evening following a high-speed car chase on the M1 motorway. Garda came upon a car in Drogheda travelling south that had been stolen in the north. Following a pursuit, garda attempted to ram the car near the M1/M50 junction, damaging three garda cars in the operation.
