Almost 80kgs Of 'Khat' Seized From Two Passengers At Dublin Airport

Almost 80kgs of the illegal drug Khat have been seized at Dublin Airport from two different travellers in the space of a week, Revenue, Tax and Customs has reported.

On Monday 04 July approximately 42kg of Khat was found in the luggage of a 45-year-old Dutch national, who arrived in Dublin on a flight from Abu Dhabi.

The drugs, which were found in the man's check-in baggage, have a street value in excess of €21,000.

The man was arrested and is due to appear before Dublin Circuit Court.

Meanwhile on Saturday 09 July, Revenue officers seized approximately 37kg of Khat from the luggage of a 23-year-old Norwegian woman who also arrived into Dublin on a flight from Abu Dhabi.

The drugs, which were found in the passenger’s check-in baggage, have a street value in excess of €18,500.

The woman was arrested, appeared in Dublin Circuit Court on Saturday afternoon and has been remanded in custody to appear again on Friday 15 July.
