Man In Critical Condition After Assault In Kerry

A man in his 30's is in critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Killorglin, County Kerry.

The victim, aged in his 30's, was involved in an altercation outside a fast-food restaurant shortly after 2am this morning, Monday 11 February.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to University Hospital Kerry by ambulance, before being transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Gardaí have launched a full investigation and believe there was a number of people in the area at the time of the assault.

No arrests have been made so far.

Officers spoke to a number of witnesses but are hopeful to speak with others who have not yet come forward.

They are also appealing to taxi drivers and other motorists who may have dash-cam footage, or members of the public who have footage of the incident or its aftermath on their phones.

Man Charged In Connection With Stabbing Teen
A man has appeared in court charged in relation to the stabbing of a 16-year-old in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Wednesday. Jamie Gallagher, 21, faces two charges, assault causing harm and producing a knife. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

Afghanistan Veteran On Rape Charge
A bomb-blasted former soldier has appeared in court in Belfast charged with rape and false imprisonment. Gerald Verner, 23, of Forthriver Park, who was deafened by a bomb in Afghanistan, is also accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm, sexual assault and threats to kill against the same woman.
