Royal Canal Attack Victim 'Critical'

An attack in Dublin yesterday has led to Gardaí in Mountjoy seeking the public's help.

A man is very ill and listed as critical in hospital and police are investigating the serious assault of a male on Monday and wish to appeal for witnesses.

The incident came to light at approximately 3.30pm on Monday and saw Gardaí discovering a male in his 20s on waste ground on the bank of the Royal Canal at the rear of Shandon Park, Dublin 7.

The male was found with serious injuries and was taken to the Mater Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A police statement said the area has been sealed off for a technical examination.

Their statement said: "Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses to this assault or to anyone that may have noticed anything unusual or suspicious in the area between 9am and 3.30pm on the 12th December to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01-6668600, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Gardaí Appeal Over Swords Assault
Gardaí in Dublin have issued an appeal to anyone who witnessed an assault on Main Street, Swords yesterday (10 October) afternoon. The victim, a man in his 40s and originally from Nigeria, is in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital after he was attacked with a baseball bat around 12.20pm.

Garda Renew Appeal For Witnesses To Dame Lane Assault
Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses after a man was assaulted on Dame Lane on Saturday 25 June. The victim, aged in his 30s, was found unconscious suffering serious head injuries on Dame Lane at approximately 11.30pm.

Public Trust In Garda At Record High
Some 80% of respondents to the Garda Public Attitudes Survey have said that they are "satisfied" with their local garda service. The survey also found that 76% of respondents agreed that Gardaí in their area can be relied upon to be there when you need them, and 81% said that the Gardaí in their area listen to the concerns of local people.

Gardaí Appeal For Information Following Serious Assault
Gardaí in Dublin have issued an appeal for information following an attempted robbery and a serious assault of a man at a newsagents in Finglas. At approximately 8.15am on Saturday 18 March, two men entered the newsagents on Fitzmaurice Road and assaulted a male member of staff.
