Investigation Launched Following Bone Discovery In Co Clare

An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a bone in Co Clare.

A bone was found on Thursday, 22 September, on the Shannon riverbank at Doonass, Clonlara, on the Clare-Limerick border.

Gardaí were called to the scene and are understood to have examined and photographed the scene before the bone was removed.

The bone is currently at University Hospital Limerick.

Detectives from Legacy Investigation Branch have issued a fresh appeal for information on the murder of Brendan McKenna near Comber in June 1993, on what would have been Brendan's 58th birthday. Mr McKenna was shot dead by a gunman as he drove to a quarry on the Ballystockart Road, Comber on 2 June 1993.

Latest Weather Warning Issued As Storm Jorge Approaches
Met Éireann have issued a Status Orange weather warning as Storm Jorge approaches Ireland this weekend. Winds of up to 85kms per hour, with gusts of up to 130 kms per hour, are expected to effect counties Galway, Clare, Kerry, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal from Saturday morning into the early hours of Sunday.

Rainfall Warning Issued For Nine Counties
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rainfall across nine counties in the west of the country. Heavy rain is forecast for all of Connacht, Longford, Donegal, Clare and Kerry. There is a risk of localised flooding.

Body Exhumed In Search For Missing Man
Gardaí investigating the disappearance of a man in 1987 have exhumed a body after a tip off. Brian McGrath, aged then 43, was last seen in 1987. Early on Monday morning Gardai exhumed remains at Whitehall Cemetery, Coole, Co Westmeath to be taken to Dublin City Morgue for additional post mortem examination and further tests.

Communities Minister Announces New Co-Ownership Support
Wider support for Co-Ownership housing has been announced by Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey. The change sees an increase in the Co-Ownership property value limit from £175,000 to £190,000 to continue to support people into home ownership.
