Off-Duty Garda Officer Stops Armed Robbery

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store on Oxmanstown Road, Dublin 7, on Monday afternoon.

It is understood that at about 13:30 yesterday, an off duty Garda entered the shop as an armed robbery was in progress. He identified himself as a member of An Garda Síochána and is said to have been threatened at gunpoint by the raider.

However, the officer was able to disarm the robber and restrain him until local Gardaí arrived.

The firearm and a large kitchen knife were seized at the scene.

The arrested man was taken to Mountjoy Garda Station and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He is due to appear before District Court 1, Criminal Courts of Justice today.

Garda Hunt Man Following Attempted Armed Robbery
Gardaí are searching for a man in connection with the attempted armed robbery of an Ulster Bank in Blackpool, County Cork. According to reports, a man entered the branch and produced a knife. He threatened staff with the knife and demanded cash. It is understood that a bank teller gave the man a special cash bundle containing a dye pack.

Garda Investigate Armed Robbery By Man Dressed As A Woman
Gardaí have launched an investigation into an armed robbery in south Dublin in the early hours of Monday morning. It is understood a businessman was lodging cash at a bank deposit box at about 4:45am on Terenure Road East in Rathgar, when he was approached by a man, dressed in women's clothing, and carrying what appeared to be a handgun.

Men In Court Over Armed Jewellers Robbery
Two men, arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a jeweller's shop in Dublin, are to appear in court today. A spokesman for Gardaí said that, on Thursday, three males entered a jewellery shop, and one was armed with a firearm.
