Garda Investigate Armed Robbery By Man Dressed As A Woman

Gardaí have launched an investigation into an armed robbery in south Dublin in the early hours of Monday morning.

It is understood a businessman was lodging cash at a bank deposit box at about 4:45am on Terenure Road East in Rathgar, when he was approached by a man, dressed in women's clothing, and carrying what appeared to be a handgun.

A second man is also thought to have been involved in the robbery.

The robbers made off with what has been described as a "large sum" of money.

Garda said the men made off in a silver Hyundai 140, which had a taxi sign on its roof but no other taxi markings.

The car was recovered in the Harolds Cross area.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and to anyone who may have passed the ATM at the AIB branch on Terenure Road East between 4.30am and 4.45am.

Anyone who may have seen any unusual behaviour or saw the silver Hyundai with the taxi sign is also asked to contact Terenure Garda Station on 01 6666400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
