Last Minute Talks Fail To Avert Bus Strike

Last minute talks held between unions and bus companies have failed to avert strike action planned for today and tomorrow.

The Labour Relations Commission (LRC) hosted last minute talks on Thursday between representatives of Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann and SIPTU and the Nation Bus and Rail Union, but it is understood that no agreement was reached.

The bus workers began the first of two day strike action this morning in a dispute over a proposal to privatise 10% of bus routes.

The LRC has urged both sides to engage with an intensive period of negotiations to prevent a further five days of strikes from happening.
