Woman Dies After Being Hit By DART

A woman hit by a DART train after falling onto the tracks at Raheny station has died in hospital.

It is understood that the woman was waiting on a train when she fell onto the tracks at about 13:45 on Thursday.

The driver of the Pearse to Drogheda service is understood to have applied the emergency brake but was unable to stop the train before it hit the woman.

She was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

A 75-year-old woman has died in hospital five days after she was hit by a motorcycle in Dublin. Tressa McKernan was seriously injured on Ballinteer Avenue at around 7.45pm on Monday 08 April. The incident occurred after she stepped off a bus and attempted to cross a road. She died on Sunday 14 April at Beaumont Hospital.

Man Presents Himself To Gardaí Over Hanlon's Corner Hit-And-Run
A man has presented himself to gardaí in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident on 30 September, following an appeal. In the incident an 87-year-old man was knocked from his wheelchair after being hit by a white lorry, which then failed to stop. The man died a short time later of his injuries.

Woman Dies After Being Hit By HGV Lorry
An 80-year-old woman has died in Aughadrina, Castlebar, after being hit by a heavy goods vehicle on Wednesday afternoon. The as yet unidentified woman was taken to Mayo General Hospital with serious injuries, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Road Death Toll Rises Again
There have been further road fatalities with two women and a man being killed following separate road accidents yesterday evening in both Co Sligo and Co Londonderry. In the first incident, a 48-year-old woman died after being hit by a car at Corball in Enniscrone at around 5pm.

Woman Stabbed In Athy
A woman has been stabbed in Athy, Co Kildare. The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was stabbed just before noon, on Tuesday. She was taken to Naas General Hospital and was treated with minor injuries. Gardai have launched an investigation. No arrests have been made.
