64-Year-Old Left Critical After Assault In Co Tipperary

A 64-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital following an assault in Co Tipperary on Thursday.

The man was found at a house in Ballyporeen at about 15:00 on Thursday when paramedics responded to a call.

He is in Cork University Hospital, where is said to be "fighting for his life".

Garda arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the assault at about 21:00 last night.

The scene of the assault has been cordoned off pending a forensic examination.

Man Injured During Attack
A man has received serious head injuries during what is believed to be an assault in Tipperary last night. Gardai in Tipperary Town are investigating the alleged assault, which took place on Main Street in Bansha, Co Tipperary on Wednesday between 9.00pm and 10pm, in which a 29-year-old man was injured.

Man Charged In Connection With Stabbing Teen
A man has appeared in court charged in relation to the stabbing of a 16-year-old in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Wednesday. Jamie Gallagher, 21, faces two charges, assault causing harm and producing a knife. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

Afghanistan Veteran On Rape Charge
A bomb-blasted former soldier has appeared in court in Belfast charged with rape and false imprisonment. Gerald Verner, 23, of Forthriver Park, who was deafened by a bomb in Afghanistan, is also accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm, sexual assault and threats to kill against the same woman.
