89-Year-Old Attack Victim Dies

An 89-year-old woman who was the victim of an assault by burglars in July has died in hospital.

Suzy Arthur was attacked by thieves posing as painters.

She and her sister 91-year-old sister Isa were assaulted on 1 July at their home at Tullyrap, near Raphoe.

A gang of men had approached the women, offering to paint their house.

The men then ransacked the house and threw Ms Arthur to the ground, whereupon she broke her hip.

The women's nephew Joe McKean said the attack was the reason for her death.

"That just destroyed her life," he told Highland Radio. "If they hadn't broke into her that day, Suzy would still be alive."

"She could never walk after it. She was able to take a few steps for the first couple of weeks, but after that she had just given up," he said.

The attack was one of many robberies over the summer that specifically targeted elderly people in County Donegal this summer.

No-one has yet been arrested.
