Eight In Hospital Following Clare Chemical Spill

Eight people are being treated in hospital following a chemical spill in County Clare.

The affected are being cared for at Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

The Health and Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the incident at the Chemifloc plant in Shannon on 20 December.

Fire services have confirmed a chemical reaction caused a gas emission to occur.

The incident occurred when a batch of bleach was being loaded at the plant.

Seven workers were kept overnight in hospital.

An eighth person was admitted at the Emergency Department in the early hours December 21.

Those affected by the spill were decontaminated by fire personnel outside the hospital before they were admitted.

No one is believed to be seriously injured.
