Second Chemical Spill At Cork Plant

Fire fighters have been called to an industrial estate in County Cork following a chemical spill.

The explosion, which happened at the Corden Pharmachem plant in Little Island, Co Cork, was the second incident at the plant this week.

A chemical spill had occurred in a drum storage area on Sunday.

Units from Cobh, Midleton and Cork City were called to the scene just after 9am this morning. The explosion occurred during a waste treatment process, and is not related to the previous incident.

There were no reported injuries, and the Health and Safety Authority have said the plant had been evacuated at 9:30am following a chemical leak which occurred as a result of an explosion.
