Arrests Made In Gardaí Organised Crime Raids

A series of raids on Thursday morning targeting organised crime in the Dublin region has lead to the arrest of over 15 people, 5 of who could face extradition.

The searches were carried out as part of Operation Wireless, which was established by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

Four men and a woman were arrested on foot of European Arrest Warrants.

The woman and one of the men were taken to Blanchardtown Garda station, while the three men were being held in Kilmainham, Bridewell and Ashbourne Garda stations.

They are wanted in other European countries, including France, Poland and Lithuania, for a variety of alleged crimes.

Other arrests were made for drug and theft offences.

A Garda spokeswoman said the operation, which involved personnel from the Criminal Assets Bureau, the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation, National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Garda National Drug Unit and regional detective units, is ongoing.

Cocaine Worth An Estimated €500,000 Seized In Dublin
Cocaine worth an estimated €500,000 has been discovered during a stop and search of a vehicle in west Dublin. Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau made the seizure when they stopped a vehicle in Ballyfermot on Thursday afternoon. A follow-up search was also carried out in Dublin 20, garda said.

Public Trust In Garda At Record High
Some 80% of respondents to the Garda Public Attitudes Survey have said that they are "satisfied" with their local garda service. The survey also found that 76% of respondents agreed that Gardaí in their area can be relied upon to be there when you need them, and 81% said that the Gardaí in their area listen to the concerns of local people.

Five Arrested Over Theft Of ESB Power Cables
Five men have been arrested in connection with the theft of ESB overhead power cables in a gardaí operation. Gardaí attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, assisted by local Gardaí from Kildare and the Garda Air Support Unit, launched the arrest operation. Two of the men have been released without charge and investigations are continuing.
