Dept Of Agriculture Investigate Employee For Accessing Financial Records

The Irish Independent has learned that the Department of Agriculture has started an internal investigation after an employee was suspected of having accessed the financial records of some of the country's 130,000 farmers.

The investigators are also working to determine if the employee passed the sensitive information to a third party.

The department holds very detailed information on each farmer, including bank details, how many acres they own, rent details, and how much they are paid by the European Union each year.

Last night, the department declined to comment on the investigation, as it was ongoing.
