Two Arrested In Connection With Ciaran O'Connell Murder

A gardai investigation into the killing of Ciaran O’Connell has led to the arrest of two men, both in their early twenties.

O’Connell died on Wednesday after being assaulted at a St Patrick’s Day party on Sunday night.

The men, who have yet to be named, were arrested early this morning were arrested early this morning at their homes in Mullagh, Co Cavan and Kells, Co Meath.

They are both being detained in Bailieborough Garda Station.

Mr O'Connell, 22, had gone to the party at a rented house in his home village of Mullagh on 17 March and was seriously injured in an incident in the early hours of the following morning.

Mr O'Connell was rushed to Cavan General Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he died on Wednesday.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in Limerick City. It is understood that a number of burglaries where reported in the Athlunkard Street area of the city between 07:50 and 08:15 on the morning on Monday 25 January. Gardaí responded to reports and arrested the man close to the scene.

Appeal For Witnesses To Early Morning Shooting In Dublin
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a shooting in Dublin this morning. According to garda a man was shot just after 9am on Thursday morning on Clonard Street. The victim has been taken to hospital but no details of his condition have been released. The scene of the shooting has been sealed off pending a technical examination.

Appeal For Information Following Early Morning Assault
Gardaí in Dublin have appealed for information following an assault in the city on Thursday morning. A man, said to in his 30s, was attacked outside a shop in Summerhill shortly after 9am. He is being treated at the Mater Hospital for head injuries, which are not said to be life threatening.

Man Critical After Early Morning Shooting In Dublin
Gardaí in Dublin have reported that a man has been shot and seriously injured in Donaghmede at about 9am this morning. According to reports the man was shot in the head shortly after dropping children off at a nearby creche on Holywell Avenue. The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital and is described as being in a critical condition.
