Building Society Raided By Man With Axe

A man in Kildare has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Kildare Building Society, while armed with an axe.

The incident took place at the EBS building society on Mill Lane, Leixlip, shortly after 9.00am on Thursday morning. The lone raider, armed with what's believed to be an axe, confronted a female staff member and demanded cash.

The man fled the building society empty handed and was arrested by Gardai a short distance away. The staff member was not injured in the incident

The man, who is in his early 40s is detained under the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Leixlip Garda station.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested today over the double murder of drug-dealing brothers.

Kenneth and Paul Corbally were gunned down in their car in a gangland hit in west Dublin in June.

The man, in his early 30s, was detained in a morning raid in the city.

He was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he was being questioned under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The Corballys, aged 32 and 35, were known drug dealers from the Ballyfermot area.

They were shot dead in their car on June 28 on the Neilstown Road, Clondalkin and a 14-year-old boy who was sitting in the back seat was wounded.

Man Arrested In Connection With Armed Robbery
Garda in south county Dublin have arrested a man in connection with the armed robbery of building society in Killiney. According to garda a man enter the building society at Killiney Shopping Centre and threatened staff with a firearm. Garda arrested a man in his 30s a short time later near the scene, recovering a firearm and a sum of money.

Man Dies In Stabbing Incident
A 30-year-old has died and a second man has been injured in a stabbing incident in Tullamore, Co Offaly, shortly after 7am this morning. It is believed there had been an argument in a house in the area and a Polish man was killed. The other man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Couple's Home To Be Repossessed Over Unpaid Loan In 1991
A bank has been given the go ahead to begin proceedings to repossess a couple's home for failing to repay a loan they took out in the 1990s. It was ruled yesterday that the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) was entitled to an order for possession of Patrick and Patricia Raftery's house at Cloonbrackna Court, Roscommon.
