Nine Held In Republic Over 'Dissent Activity'

Gardaí have made a further arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activity.

A man in his 20's was detained in the Longford area yesterday morning and is being questioned at Longford Garda station.

He has been arrested as part of the investigation which saw eight men held yesterday.

They were arrested on suspicion of membership to an unlawful organisation after firearms and ammunition where found during a Garda search.

As part of ongoing investigations into dissident republican activity, Gardai carried out search and arrest operations in the South-Eastern, Southern and Western Garda Regions.

So far, police have carried out 15 searches in counties Wexford, Waterford, Clare and Longford.

Two men, one in his 50s and one in his late 20s have been detained at New Ross Garda Station. Two, one in his 40s and the other late 20s are being held at Waterford Garda Station.

Meanwhile two men in Tramore, one in his 30s and one in his 20s have also been apprehended. One man in his early 30s is custody at Dungarva while one man in his mid 60s is currently being held at Ennis Garda Station.

Gardai have recovered a revolver and a large quantity of ammunition, during one of the searches in Co.Wexford.

In other searches suspected explosive component parts, equipment and material were seized.

Major Drug Seizure Made In Limerick Search Operation
Cocaine, cannabis and MDMA worth more than €140,000 has been seized by Gardaí in a raid in Limerick. The seizure was made during a search operation in the Castleconnell area of the city on Sunday, 11 August. The arrest and seizure was made during an intelligence-led search operation carried out early this morning. During the operation, garda seized a handgun, ammunition and other offensive weapons including a crossbow and pepper spray.

Man Arrested After Heroin Seized During Vehicle Search
A man has been arrested after heroin was discovered during a vehicle search in Co Dublin. It is understood the drugs, worth an estimated value of €420,000, were seized by Garda at 4.30 during a search in Clondalkin yesterday, 10 December. The 35-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to Lucan Garda station. Enquiries are continuing.

Man Arrested After Cannabis Plants Seized In Co Limerick
A man has been arrested after cannabis plants were seized by gardaí in Limerick. The plants are believed to be worth an estimated street value of €115,000. Gardaí carried out the planned search at a house in Bruff on Monday. The man, in his 20s, is being detained at Bruff Garda Station.
