Australia Seeks Extradition Of Meath Man

Australian authorities are seeking the extradition of man from County Meath in connection with two counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Eamonn Driver from Stanley Heights, Slane in Co Meath, is being sought after the deaths of 20-year-old Colm Reilly from Slane and Kiara Duncan, who was also 20, from Kentstown in Co Meath. Colm and Kiara died after Mr Driver's car allegedly went out of control, crossed on to the wrong side of the road and crashed into an oncoming vehicle on Halloween night 2007 in Bedford in Western Australia.

There were seven people in the Toyota Corolla Mr Driver was driving. The crash happened close to the house the occupants of the car were sharing. Mr Driver was arrested by gardaí this morning at his home in Slane and brought before the High Court this afternoon.

Sergeant Jim Kirwan told the court Mr Driver said; "I know what it's about" after being cautioned.

Renewed Appeal Over Murder Of Taxi Driver
Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information on the murder of taxi driver Martin Mulligan. Mr Mulligan (53) was stabbed to death on 28 September following an altercation in Dundalk in Co Louth. It is believed the altercation began over an unpaid taxi fare.

Driver Killed In Co Meath Road Crash
A man has died in a road crash in Co Meath, gardaí have reported. According to gardaí the 21-year-old was the driver of a car that hit a ditch on the Dunshaughlin to Dunboyne road at around 12.30am. It is understood that three other men and two women were also in the car and are being treated for injuries.

Woman Dies In Co Meath Road Crash
A woman has died in a road accident in Navan, Co Meath. A car and a moped crashed at Kilberry and the female driver of the moped, in her early 50s, was fatally injured. The collision occurred at around 9.30pm on Thursday night. The female driver of the car was not injured. The road has since been reopened.

Man Injured in Co Meath Shooting
A man has been injured in a shooting in County Meath. The attack happened at a house in Dowth, at approximately 9.45pm on Sunday. The victim was shot a number of times in the upper body and his leg. He is currently being treated at Our Lady of Lordes Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Planning Permission Refused For Slane Bypass
An Bord Pleanála has refused planning permission for the Slane bypass in County Meath. The agency turned down the planned bridge and roads around the village because it was located too near to the World Heritage Site at Brú na Bóinne and Newgrange.
