Hammer Attack Mum 'Critical'
Gardaí said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with a serious assault in which a young mother was beaten with a hammer.
They said that a 39-year-old man was arrested after he walked into a Garda station, yesterday morning, and said that he had attacked her.
The victim was injured after being attacked in her home in Mulhuddart in Dublin and has since been transferred from Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown to Beaumont Hospital where her condition is described as critical but stable.
The woman sustained serious head injuries and it is believed she was attacked with a hammer while sleeping.
Her three-year-old son was in the house at the time of the attack.

A woman is in a serious condition in hospital following a knife attack in Cobh, Co Cork. According to reports, the woman and her teenage daughter were attacked at a house in Cooline Avenue on Tuesday morning. A man has been injured in a serious attack in Dublin. It happened in Kearn's Place at around 2am this morning. The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was slashed across the face. He is currently at St James's Hospital, where his injuries are being described as "superficial".
