Rifle Recovered From Missing Car

A stolen car has been recovered and found to be containing a rifle and ammunition.

A Gardaí spokesman revealed this morning the missing 4 X 4 Black VW Touran was found on Wednesday at Templeogue Village in Dublin, which was reported stolen from the Tereure area on December 17 last year.

During a search of the vehicle officers found a rifle and ammunition. The items and the vehicle have been removed to Garda Headquarters for technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have seen this vehicle since it was reported stolen in December ’09 or who have information regarding its whereabouts to contact them at Terenure 01-6666400, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

It is unknown whether the rifle had been used in an offence, and Gardaí are expected to conduct ballistics checks on the weapon.

No arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are on-going.
