Two In Court Over Waterford Assault

Two men in their 20s will appear at Waterford District Court today after being charged in relation to a serious assault at the Peoples Park in the city on Sunday.

Two women who were detained in relation to the same incident have been released without charge although a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí revealed yesterday that four people were being held in Waterford after what has been described as a "serious assault" in the town on two individuals leaving one man in a critical condition.

Gardai launched an investigation into the assault, which occurred at the Peoples Park, Waterford at approximately 11.45pm on Sunday night.

As a result of the attack, the two men, both in their mid 20s, were taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for their injuries.

One remains in a critical condition.

The four being held were all in their 20s and questioned in custody at Waterford and Tramore Garda Stations.

Gardaí are continuing their appeal to anyone with information or who was in the Peoples Park or the surrounding area around the time of the incident and who can assist the Gardai with their enquiries to contact Waterford Garda Station 051 305300, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Waterford Sexual Assault Suspected Arrested
Gardaí investigating a serious sexual assault in Waterford city have arrested a man in his 20s. Garda say that the incident happened in the Millennium Plaza area of the city at about 4am on Sunday morning. A forensic examination of the scene on the quays was conducted on Sunday and garda say that their investigation is continuing.
