BZP Drugs Seized In Dublin Area

Three men have been arrested in connection with the seizure of amphetamine BZP in Dublin.

According to a statement by Gardai today, members of the arrests were made as part of an Organised Crime Unit (OCU) operation targeting the sale and supply of BZP tablets in the capital.

Gardai say OCU detectives stopped and searched a car on Grove Road, Rathmines on Sunday. During the course of the search, a suitcase containing approximately 150,000 tablets of the amphetamine BZP were recovered. The driver of the car, a 25 year old man, was arrested.

Further investigations resulted in the search of a flat in the Rathmines area where more BZP tablets were recovered. The subsequent seizures resulted in two further arrests of two men aged 20 and 21 years respectively. Uniform and Detective Units from Rathmines and Terenure Garda Stations assisted in the search.

The total value of the seizures is reported to be in excess of €700,000, pending analysis.

All 3 men were detained under the Drug Trafficking Act at Terenure and Rathmines Garda Stations.

The first man who was arrested appeared before Dublin District Court 44 this morning. He was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on 23 November 2009.

One of the other 2 men was released from custody yesterday morning without charge.
