Two Men Arrested Following Attempted Robbery

Two men in their 30s have been arrested following an attempted robbery at a shop in Dublin on Thursday.

Two masked men entered the shop on the Lower Rathmines Road at around 6.20pm.

One was armed with a screwdriver and they demanded cash from the shop assistant. A struggle took place and the two men fled empty handed.

The men are being detained at Rathmines Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The investigation in ongoing.

Four Arrested Over Armed Robbery At Jewellers
Four men have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a jewellery shop in Galway. Garda said the men were arrested in connection with the robbery of Hartmann's Jewellers on William Street at about 10:45 on Wednesday morning. It is understood four masked men, one believed to have been armed, entered the shop and threatened staff.

Two Men Arrested In Relation To Murder Of Gerard Delaney
Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Gerard Delaney in Cork last December. Mr Delaney, 51, died after an argument outside a pub in Ballyphehane on 27th December 2011. Both men arrested are believed to be in their 40s.

The NI police have fire a shot to halt a Co Armagh fracas - with two men arrested at the scene. The circumstances behind the single shot being fired by a police officer during the disturbance in Portadown is now to be investigated. The incident took place in the Obins Street area shortly after 8.

Off-Duty Garda Foils Attempted Robbery
An off-duty garda officer has foiled an attempted robbery of a shop in Ranelagh in Dublin. It is understood that the off-duty officers saw two men, with their faces covered, enter a shop on Lower Mount Pleasant Avenue, with one of the men carrying "what appeared to be a firearm". The officer followed the men in to the shop, confronting them.
