Elderly Woman Killed In Traffic Collision

An elderly woman has been fatally injured in a traffic collision in Westmeath.

Gardai investigating the collision, which occurred near Clonfad in County Westmeath at 11.15am, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The collision between two cars resulted in the death at the scene of the 76-year-old woman. A man was also removed to Mullingar General Hospital, with what are described as serious injuries.

Anyone that may have travelled this stretch of road between Mullingar and Tyrellspass around the time of the collision and who may be able to assist the Gardai is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station 044 9384000, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The road at the scene or the crash remains closed, pending examination of the area by forensic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s has died following a collision in Ballymena, Co Antrim, yesterday evening.

The crash happened in the Larne Link Road area of the town shortly before 6.30pm.

It is understood that the man had been walking when he was struck by a car.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Two Dead In Separate Collisions
Two people have died on Ireland's roads after traffic collisions in Dublin and Kilkenny in the last two days. In the latest incident, a male aged 19 was fatally injured when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a stationary vehicle. His body was taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Two Teens Killed In Separate Collisions
Two teenagers have been fatally injured during two separate road collisions in Westmeath and County Cork. In the most recent incident, an 18-year-old male passenger of a car was killed after the car he was traveling in collided with a van about one mile outside Rosscarbery on the Skibbereen Road in County Cork.
