Roads Claim More Lives

An investigation is under way into a fatal crash that happened in Co Donegal on Friday.

Gardaí said an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a van shortly after 5pm and was taken to Letterkenny where he later died.

An 80-year-old man has also died when the van in which he was the sole occupant collided with a fence.

The single vehicle accident happened on the main Letterkenny to Ballybofey Road near the village of Drumkeen at about a 6.45pm the same evening.

The elderly man was also taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, in the North, two people have also died on the roads.

It has emerged that a young man killed in a car crash in Co Antrim at the weekend had recently become a dad for the second time.

Christopher Rowan, 24, who was from Ballymoney, was killed when the car he was driving struck a wall early on Saturday morning.

The accident happened shortly after 1am on the Castlecat Road in Derrykeighan.

A 19-year-old man also died after a single-vehicle crash close to Rathfriland in Co Down yesterday morning.
