Shock Weekend On Irish Roads As Eight Die

As gardaí investigations begin into the deaths of four people killed in separate road crashes in the past weekend, the PSNI in the North are also investigating a similar shock road toll - with four road deaths in roughly the same period.

The woman killed in a collision on the N8 at Cloonlough, Mitchelstown, Co Cork on Saturday has just been named as Ciara O'Brien, 26, of Bellview, Fermoy, Co Cork.

She died following a two car collision at Cloonlough at around 6.30pm that evening.

Earlier, two teenagers died following a road crash in Lucan, Dublin.

Three others were injured in the single car crash which happened at Chapel Hill at around 11am.

All five occupants of the car were taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

Two men, believed to be in their late teens, later died from their injuries.

Elsewhere, a 26-year-old man died in a road crash in Co Mayo.

The man was a passenger in a car that hit another car at Drumadoon, Balla, Castlebar, at around 10pm on Friday night.

The drivers of the two cars received minor injuries and were taken to Mayo General Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s and a child are both in critical condition after a crash on the M50 in Dublin.

The single car crash happened at around 12.45pm on the M50 southbound near the Red Cow junction.

Two other children in the car were also injured. One has since been released from hospital while the other child is said to be in a stable condition.

In Northern Ireland, a man has died following a road accident in Co Down.

Darren Brown, 19, from Downpatrick was killed in the two-vehicle crash on the Belfast Road near Saintfield shortly before 11pm on Saturday.

Also, in the early hours of Monday, two men and a woman have died in a car crash in Co Tyrone.

Four other people were also taken to Craigavon hospital by ambulance after the collision between two cars on the Drum Road in Cookstown.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. When police arrived it was discovered that a white Seat Leon had left the carriageway close to the junction with Grangefoyle Road.

A man has died and three people remain in a critical condition following two car crashes in County Carlow and County Mayo. A man, 42, died in a single car accident on the Tullow to Castledermot Road at around 4pm yesterday.

Man Dies In Shooting Incident
A 21-year-old man who was shot in Bunratty, Co Clare, died yesterday in hospital. Two men are still being questioned over the attack at the Bunratty Castle Hotel car park, and are being detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Stations.

Three Die On Mayo and Waterford Roads
Three women have been killed in two separate road crashes in Mayo and Waterford over the weekend. In the latest incident, which took place shortly before noon on Saturday, a Polish woman and her teenage daughter were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Mayo.
