Woman Dies In Co Limerick Road Crash

A woman has died and a man is in a critical condition in hospital following a road crash in Co Limerick this morning.

The single-vehicle collision happened just before 7am on the main Limerick to Tipperary road near Pallasgreen.

The woman, who was in her 20s and from Limerick city, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The N24 Limerick/Tippperary road has been closed for a technical examination and is expected to remain closed at Drumkeen for most of the morning.

Drivers coming from Limerick, are being asked to divert at Grange Cross via Cappamore and those coming from Tipperary are advised to divert at Pallasgreen.

A spokesman for AA Roadwatch said that throughout the state heavy rain has resulted in extremely hazardous conditions.

"Slow down, drive with extra care and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you," he said.

Human Remains Confirmed As Missing Limerick Woman
Human remains found in Galway Bay on 29 November have been confirmed as those of missing Limerick woman, Maria Hennigar. The 35-year-old was reported missing on 22 November, although she had not been seen earlier that month.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen will open the long awaited Limerick Tunnel today at 1pm. The route now cuts under the River Shannon and links Coonagh on the northern bank with Bunlicky on the southern bank. There are two toll plazas located on the north side of the river and it will cost €1.

Schoolboy Dies In Limerick Crash
A boy has been killed in a road collision in Limerick. The 12-year-old is understood to have been struck by a vehicle in the Moyross area of the city around 10am on Thursday morning. The area has been sealed off and forensic experts are examining the scene. Gardaí have launched an investigation.

Man And Child Killed In Collision On Limerick To Tipperary Road
A man and a young child, believed to be his daughter, have died in a collision on the main Limerick to Tipperary road this morning, 19 July. According to Garda, the man and child were in a car that collided with a truck at about 8.30am approximately one mile from Brooks Bridge on the Tipperary side of Pallasgreen.

'N' Plate For New Drivers Comes Into Force Today
The new Novice plate for new drivers is to come into force today. New drivers will replace their 'L' plates with the new 'N' plates, which they will have to display for two years. Under the new law that brings in the 'N' plate, the number of penalty points before disqualification has been reduced to seven.
