Robbery Arrests Made

The two men arrested after gardaí foiled an attempt to rob the Bank of Ireland in Edenderry, Co Offaly over the weekend are also being grilled on an earlier incident.

The men - who are in their mid 40s - were arrested early on Sunday morning as they tried to break through a disused premises next door to the bank.

Both men were arrested shortly after 2am and are currently being detained at Tullamore Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

They are also being quizzed as part of an ongoing investigation into another incident - the armed robbery of an AIB bank, also in Edenderry - last September.

In that incident, described by police as a similar robbery, €300,000 was taken from the AIB bank branch in the town in 2008.

Gardaí investigating a bank robbery at the Rathfarnham Shopping Centre yesterday have arrested two men in the Dublin 8 area this morning. Around noon a lone gunman entered the Bank branch and demanded money from the cashier.

Simultaneous Ulster Bank Robberies In Dublin
Gardaí are searching for three men following separate raids on two Ulster Bank branches in Dublin. Two armed men escaped from an Ulster bank outlet in Dundrum with an undisclosed sum of cash after entering the bank at around 10.00am.

Customers Affected By Tracker Mortgage Scandal Rises To 3,500
The number of Ulster Bank customers affected by the tracker mortgage scandal has risen from 2,000 to 3,500. At a meeting of the Oireachtas Finance Committee this morning, 05 October, Ulster Bank executives confirmed that the number of people affected by the scandal had risen.
