Heavy Security In Limerick Court As Murder Charge Laid

Heavy security was evident yesterday as a young man was charged with the murder of Limerick businessman and father Roy Collins.

James Dillon (23) of no fixed abode was brought to Limerick District Court after he was charged with the murder of the 35-year-old father of two last week.

Originally from the southside of Limerick city, Dillon was arrested last week and was questioned by officers investigating the murder for a week.

He was charged with the murder of Roy Collins contrary to common law at Coin Castle amusements, Roxboro Shopping Centre, on April 9 last. The court heard that the accused man made no reply when charged.

Dillon remained silent and motionless throughout yesterday's hearing which only lasted for a minute.

The defendant was remanded in custody to appear before the same court again next Wednesday.

Judge O'Donnell noted that as it was a murder charge, any bail application would have to be considered by the High Court.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man who was also being questioned about the murder was released without charge yesterday.

A woman who was questioned was also released yesterday morning. A file on the investigation is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The search for the gun used to kill Mr Collins continued yesterday with officers searching the Rosbrien area on the southside of the city for the weapon.
