Fianna Fail TD Pleads Guilty To Drink-Driving
A Cork South-West TD has been disqualified from driving for one year and fined €300 after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
Christy O'Sullivan, from Clonakilty, was was stopped at a garda checkpoint in his own town on the Monday evening of the June Bank Holiday weekend.
He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after failing a roadside breath test. According to reports, Mr O'Sullivan was found to be over the limit by eight milligrams of alcohol.
A subsequent blood sample taken at Clonakilty Garda Station gave a reading of 88mgs of alcohol to 100ml of blood, which is just over the legal limit.
Superintendent Pat Maher told the court that the Fianna Fail TD contacted him the following day to apologise, while the court also heard he was extremely embarrassed by what happened and that a disqualification would inconvenience him in his constituency work.
Judge James McNulty disqualified Mr O'Sullivan from driving for one year, fined him €300 and ordered him to pay €100 to the medical bureau to cover the cost of his blood analysis.
The disqualification will take effect from January 1st.
