Dermot Morgan's Sons Launch New Health Campaign

The Irish Heart Foundation’s new ‘September Heart Month’ campaign was officially launched today, backed by Don And Ron and Ben Morgan, the sons of Father Ted star Dermot Morgan.

Mr Morgan was just 45 when he passed away 14 years ago after suffering a heart attack.

“It’s a big thing for us to make sure that people are aware of their own health, particularly their own heart health,” said his son Rob, who at 32 has himself been diagnosed with high blood pressure.

“Dermot was just 45-years-old when he died suddenly of a heart attack which is too young by anyone’s measure.

“Heart attacks and strokes can happen when you least expect it. Ever since Dermot died I’m paranoid about getting checked for my blood pressure and it’s a good thing too.”

The Irish Heart Foundation launched its national blood pressure mobile road show offering free checks at nearly 50 locations around the country.

Some 60% of adults over the age of 45 have high blood pressure, many of whom are unaware of it.

Details on free tests can be found at www.irishheart.ie.
