Dublin Shooting Victim Named As Police Appeal For Information

Gardaí are appealing for information after a man was shot dead in Dublin in what is thought to be a gang-related killing.

The man, who was in his mid 20s, was shot in Dublin's north inner city on Sunday evening and has this afternoon been named as Gavin McCarthy, Oriel Street Lower, Dublin 1.

He was the 16th gun murder of the year, with two other men missing and presumed shot dead.

According to reports, the victim was one a group of people standing outside Noctor's Pub, Sheriff Street, Dublin 1, at around 9.15pm when a gunman opened fire, wounding him in the face a number of times.

The man was taken to the Mater hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sources say Gardaí believe the killing is linked to an ongoing gang feud, which has so far claimed the lives of three other men in the past three years.

Gardaí say the victim was connected to the feud that erupted following the prosecution of Christy Griffin for rape in 2007.

Officers have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm last night to contact them at Store Street Garda Station.
