Four Hospitalised After Helicopter Crash In Meath

A helicopter crash in Co Meath has left four in hospital after it went down near a temporary secondary school.

The crash in Bettystown, happened at around 4.30pm on Thursday, an hour after the school's 80 students had left for the day.

The American S76 helicopter had dropped off two passengers at the nearby beach before getting into difficulties and crashing.

The Irish pilot managed to escape the wreck, with the help of the school caretaker, just before the aircraft was engulfed in flames.

The pilot has since been taken to Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, three further people were injured by flying debris and have been also taken to the hospital. All are believed to have escaped with minor injuries.

Three members of the Air Accident Investigation Unit are reported to be on site, and an investigation into the crash has begun.

The emergency services have cordoned off the area.

A 31-year-old man has been killed in a road accident in Kilmore, Co Meath. The two car crash happened on the M4 westbound at approximately 1.25am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Naas General Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Woman Killed In Kerry Road Crash
Gardaí in Kerry have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road crash in Annascaul on Thursday evening. A 59-year-old woman, who was a passenger in a car, was killed in a collision with another vehicle at about 18:40.
